Strengthening Minnesota from campus to community

Strengthen U of M’s workforce and statewide mission-driven programs

FY26 Request: $135 million recurring

Reinvest in the University of Minnesota’s critical needs to support statewide education, research, and outreach programs, as well as the faculty, researchers, and staff who make these programs successful, while minimizing tuition increases.

Strengthen Minnesota’s future skilled workforce

FY26 Request: $30 million recurring

Improve learning, retention, and graduation rates of U of M students by investing in mental health services, tutoring, and academic support; addressing challenges such as food and housing insecurity; and providing modern technology infrastructure critical to 21st century higher education

Strengthen research to drive Minnesota’s economy

FY26 Request: $40 million recurring

Advance innovation and new technologies in four promising sectors with strategic statewide benefits, including economic development and sustainability: biomanufacturing; advanced agriculture; hypersonics; and green iron.

Strengthen academic health for all Minnesotans

FY26 Request: $45 million recurring

Address Minnesota’s healthcare workforce shortages; reduce health inequities through partnerships in underserved communities; improve quality of healthcare across Minnesota through interprofessional education and research; and advance treatments and disease prevention. This is the first phase of implementation of U of M’s Health Sciences Strategic Plan.

 

Preliminary request pending Board of Regents approval in October.
