Governor releases capital investment recommendations

On Tuesday, January 18, Governor Tim Walz and Lieutenant Governor Peggy Flanagan announced their statewide capital investment (also known as bonding) recommendations on the Twin Cities campus. President Gabel and CSE student Mustafa Syed also gave remarks and University Architect Marc Partridge led a tour of the Child Development Building, which was funded by the state in 2020. 

On Tuesday, January 18, Governor Tim Walz and Lieutenant Governor Peggy Flanagan announced their statewide capital investment (also known as bonding) recommendations on the Twin Cities campus. President Gabel and CSE student Mustafa Syed also gave remarks and University Architect Marc Partridge led a tour of the Child Development Building, which was funded by the state in 2020. 

The governor and lieutenant governor’s recommendations include $141.8 million for Higher Education Asset Preservation and Replacement (HEAPR) projects systemwide and $72 million for Chemistry Undergraduate Teaching Laboratories on the Twin Cities campus.

Last week, the governor also announced his supplemental budget recommendations. The state’s latest budget forecast projected a significant $7.7 billion surplus, which will drive many of the budget discussions this session. The governor and lieutenant governor are expected to release more details about their supplemental budget recommendations this week.




Senate Capital Investment tours Twin Cities campus bonding projects



On Wednesday, January 18, the Senate Capital Investment Committee visited the Twin Cities campus to tour some of the University’s requested bonding projects for the 2022 session. The committee chair, members, and staff learned more about HEAPR, the Health Discovery Hub, Chemistry Undergraduate Teaching Laboratories, and the Agricultural Research and Education Complex. A special thanks to the College of Liberal Arts for also hosting the group at the recently completed Pillsbury Hall, which was funded by the state in 2018.
