Governor Walz called the Minnesota Legislature into a third special session on Wednesday, August 12, to extend the COVID-19 Peacetime Emergency for another 30 days. The legislature passed two bills and adjourned sine die from the one-day special session.

The Minnesota Legislature is currently limited in action due to August bond sales. During the bond sales, the state cannot make changes to the budget or pass a bonding bill without jeopardizing the financing of previously approved projects. The blackout period will end in late September.

In order to extend his emergency powers for another 30 days, Governor Walz will need to call a fourth special session on or before September 11.
