FY19 Supplemental Budget Request

On March 8, the Board of Regents approved a $10 million supplemental budget request to submit to the state. The University of Minnesota will use this funding, if approved by the legislature and signed into law by the governor, to hold tuition flat in academic year 2018-19 for resident undergraduate students at all five University campuses. This will save approximately 31,500 students $200-250 next year.

The legislature will consider this supplemental budget request among the many other requests over the next several weeks. The process will culminate with potential passage of a supplemental budget bill this session.

Next week, the governor will submit his supplemental budget recommendations to the legislature. The University is advocating for governor to include its request in his recommendation. University presents capital request in higher education committees

On Tuesday, March 6, President Kaler, faculty, and students presented the University's capital request in the House and Senate higher education committees. Although capital investment is not in the purview of these committees, they provide higher education recommendations to the capital investment committees. Those committees then prepare a bill for the full House and Senate to consider and negotiate with the governor to reach a final resolution.
