Growing Community and Local Government Relations

Colleagues

A driver of the success of the University is strong and vibrant communities surrounding our campuses in Crookston, Duluth, Morris, Rochester, and the Twin Cities.

Leading that effort is the University’s Office of Community and Local Government Relations, and Director Erick Garcia Luna. The Community and Local Government Relations team is tasked with moving forward our engagement and planning with our neighborhood partners.

Today, Erick and I presented our vision for this work before the Board of Regents. We (mostly Erick!) discussed the need to renew our connections with neighborhood leaders and expand relationships and outreach with local elected officials. We believe this effort will strengthen our capacity to engage, leverage expertise in policy development, and help with short- and long-term planning.

This work is not confined to the Twin Cities campus. Our team is eager to learn about the work of our colleagues in Crookston, Duluth, Morris, and Rochester and how we can share successful tactics and strategies to grow community connections across the state.

You can view our presentation before the Board (scroll to page 156), and learn more about our work by clicking on the Community Relations tab on our home page.

Thanks,

J.D.
