About Government and Community Relations

The Government and Community Relations team at the University are your lobbyists and representatives at all levels of the government—representing the entire University of Minnesota system.

Welcome to the University of Minnesota's Government and Community Relations website, and thank you for visiting!

The Government and Community Relations team at the University are your lobbyists and representatives before Congress, at the State Capitol, and in City Halls—representing the entire University of Minnesota system. It is our responsibility to build support for the University among elected and community leaders, advance the priorities of the Board of Regents, and provide strategic advice and counsel to University faculty, staff, and students.

But we can't do it alone. The success of our team is dependent on our colleagues and friends getting informed and getting involved.

We encourage you to visit this website often for the latest news from our team, to access Government and Community Relations documents, and to learn how to be an advocate for the University with your elected leaders, neighbors, family, and friends. You also can find information about the 2018 Capital Request here, for example, or how the University impacts the region where you live. And you can use this site to become a UMN Advocate and add your voice to critical conversations regarding the University of Minnesota.

We are excited about this new platform and we welcome your participation in our efforts.

Sincerely,

J.D. Burton
Chief Government Relations Officer
University of Minnesota
