Higher Education Asset Preservation and Replacement
$200 million in state funding
Preserve and renew the U of M’s existing infrastructure to better serve students, maximize its useful life, and ensure the health, safety, and wellbeing of building users. The U of M allocates HEAPR funding systemwide in four categories: health, safety, and accessibility; building systems; utility infrastructure; and energy efficiency.
Chemistry Undergraduate Teaching Laboratories
$62.4 million in state funding
Create a 101,600-square-foot modern teaching laboratory on the Twin Cities campus to support more than 3,300 undergraduate students. The building’s 18 active learning laboratories will provide space for collaboration, lab prep, and academic support. The U of M Twin Cities' undergraduate chemistry lab enrollment is projected to increase more than 14 percent from 2018 to 2020. Funding for design was provided in the 2020 bonding bill.
Science Building—Design
$1.6 million in state funding
Predesign and design the existing 70-year-old, obsolete Chemistry Building on the Duluth campus to serve other high priority science and technology programs. Renovating and modernizing this space will provide active learning classrooms and much-needed laboratory space for students in the Computer Science and Earth & Environmental Science programs, as well as research lab space.
